Shapes & colors

Shapes & Colors is a prototype matching game designed for ages 2-4. This project was made in Unreal Engine using only UI elements and minimal audio for a “touch” screen gameplay experience.

This project required several different playtest sessions with players of the specified age group. For this project, I had to research into child learning practices to understand what were the best ways to connect with this audience in the most efficient and meaningful way.

During my playtest sessions, I learn that this audience often needs more than audio cues and images on a screen to understand the goal of the game. For example, when they select the wrong answer, instead of a simple “Try Again!” it was better to define their choice, “That is the red cat, touch the yellow cat”. On the programming side, it was also better to have in place a “touch + drag” input since this age group tend to touch the screen in a number of different ways.
